Tortoise Care Products and Information
Tortoises can be sensitive creatures. You have some tortoises that are unable to live in damp, cool climates and those who tolerate it. Before you obtain a tortoise for a pet you will need to read the care sheet on that specific tortoise. Once you have read it you will have a better handle on some of the medical issues your tortoise might encounter. The medical issues your tortoise could have will determine the tortoise care products you might require.
For example sometimes it is very easy for a tortoise to get an issue with their leg such as a sore from improper cleaning of the vivarium or coming into contact with something else. As a result you might require medications. Here are a few of the care products on the market you might consider.
1. Medivet Vetadine is a wound cleaner. It will allow you to use antiseptic on any wound your tortoise might have. In this way you are able to ensure the tortoise’s injury is getting the cleaning it needs before you do anything else to it like apply the medication.
2. TRex Bio Fresh is a deodoriser. It is a spray that you should use in tropical enclosures. However, you do not want to just spray it into the vivarium. You need the tortoise to be out of the container and to let it air out before you place your tortoise back inside.
3. Vetark also has a wound cleaner which is made with Tamodine rather than Vetadine. It is just another style cleaner that might be gentler on certain tortoises.
4. Tortoises can develop mites just like other reptiles. There is a Zoo Med mite off product you can purchase in order to keep the mites off your tortoise and thus your pet healthier.
5. The last care product under the health and care category is a healing aid that will help close the tortoise wound quicker without damaging your reptile further. It is quick to apply and works for most tortoises.
There are other care products that fall under the comfortable category. In other words your pet might require care products such as the turtle bone, which is something a tortoise can actually eat and chew on while it is in the cage. It helps give more calcium to the aquatic tortoise species.
Further in the tortoise care product categories are tortoise accessories such as floating islands. Aquatic tortoises will not always want to be in the water. If you have the entire bottom of the vivarium filled with water you should have some type of floating logs, rocks, and other options. These floating islands are resin, which means they are safe to place in the tank. They will float in the water to allow your tortoise to pop its head up and rest it on the island. You have other styles of islands as well that fall under the tortoise care products. Your pet reptile will also require water and food dishes to keep them healthy.
